Synopsis Chicha music, fuses the tropical sounds of cumbia with the traditional Andean sounds. Additional influences from international genres such as surf and psychedelic rock, salsa, and even techno give Chicha a distinct sound. Although Chicha is to be considered as one genre, it is also possible to recognize different styles, which somehow are related to the regional origins of migrants.
At the beginning Chicha lyrics would talk about hard work, the life of newcomers to a big city, the struggle between social classes, the longing of home towns and communities, love and the separation from beloved persons, poverty, and the like. Later new subject matters were introduced like the meeting of migrants who fell in love in the cities, the celebration of success through hard work, the denouncing of discrimination or the celebration of schooling possibilities.
