CANDELITA - in conversation about Vallenato

On November the 17th we bring you our first instalment of Candelita ‘in conversation’, which will be an exploration into one of the most popular and culturally significant music genres in Colombia, Vallenato.

Founded in the early 19th century the word shares its meaning with ‘Born in the valley’ - and was created by local farmers in the Colombian Caribbean, on their travels through coastal villages in order to entertain themselves and share stories and news between the ‘pueblos’.

For the first part of our evening we will be showcasing the film by Ciro Guerra, ‘Los Viajes Del Viento’ which follows the journey of a boy and an accordion player across an enchanting backdrop of Colombia’s coastal villages, unravelling the spirits of Vallenato and Colombian folklore. This will be accompanied by a veggie ode to el sancocho, a favourite Colombian national dish.
