About the Event

Post Bar presents an unforgettable night of irresistible Brazilian melodies and heavy foot stompin' Balkan bangers. This promises to be a night full of rhythms and dance! Olaya bring the flute  & percussion inspired by Brazilian 'Bandas de Pifanos' and Raka  bring the Balkan grooves that will leave no one in their seat!

  • Raka @rakabalkanband @rakabalkanband

Raka  are an 8-piece ensemble that play traditional music from the Balkans.  The unmistakable groove of Raka brings everyone to their feet. Our music  has a strong focus in the folk traditions of Bulgaria and Macedonia, as  well as the Romani music that span far and wide across the Balkans. Our  meandering musical tributaries have all led us to one communal river:  the love and commitment to the music of the Balkans. We bring to life a  genuinely authentic repertoire wherever we are, from sweaty back rooms  of North London clubs to concert halls on the banks of the Thames.  We  took the dance for our name as that’s what we love to do!

Olayá is a brand new female-led flute and percussion band inspired  by Northeastern Brazilian bandas de pifanos (bamboo flutes), with the  elemental force of flutes, vocal harmonies, percussion and bass. Olaya’s  music is heavily rhythmic and contagiously fun, with quirky  arrangements of traditional Brazilian tunes plus original compositions.

Olaya’s  musicians have long been at the forefront of London’s Brazilian music  scene. They have played in festivals and venues internationally with a  plethora of artists including Gal Costa, Alvorada and Antonio Forcione,  and have appeared on BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM, Worldwide FM and the West End  stage.
