About the Event
The first Black London housing cooperative, Nubia Way, was built 30 years ago as a self organised answer to housing discrimination and unsuitable conditions. Members encountered many challenges over the years, including financial difficulties and racist attacks. We will watch a short film about Nubia Way and hear from members about their experience.
In 2021, Gida, a new Black led housing cooperative was founded in Haringey in response to the poor quality of privately rented housing still experienced by Black and Global Majority communities across London. Gıda successfully bid to secure 58 homes in a new development in Tottenham, north London, and it is currently looking for active members to join the cooperative and move into the new homes.
If you live or work in Haringey (or have been pushed out of the borough), please join us to learn more about this exciting new Black and
Global Majority housing co-op…
